The “COP Presidency’s High-level event on health” which was held on Nov. 12 in Bonn was important for R20 Founding Chair, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Because for him, failing to talk about the impact of pollution on health is why communication around climate change has been so unsuccessful over the past years.
There is something off with communication around climate change, because for some reason, people don’t talk about the health aspect. There are countless conferences and speeches about rising temperatures, CO2 levels etc. but no one is talking about the number of people dying today because of pollution … And we need to talk about this issue. This is exactly what the doctor has prescribed. This is how we can bring people into our crusade and then march forward in a much more successful way
In a passionate address, Arnold Schwarzenegger reminded the audience that it is only when emphasizing the impacts of pollution on health that the people of California overwhelmingly voted for a clean energy future.
He ended his address by challenging the WHO to bring the world to “label fossil fuels” as they did for cigarette.
“Wouldn’t it be great that when we drive into a gas station it says: what you will pump into your gas tank may kill you”
